This morning I woke up and met my new friend Nico for coffee. We talked in Spanglish and he played some of his favorite Argetenian music for me. We got on the train together and I had a blast speaking with him in Spanish because no one around us knew what we were saying. In America it drives me crazy when people do that, but now I had become one of Those people.. and it was great. I said goodbye to him at my stop towards downtown.
The only thing left I hadn't done here that I planned to was check out the Gardens By The Bay. It was lovely, but I have seen a lot of greenery on this vacation so I didn't stay long. I walked over to the Singapore Flyer. A giant Ferris wheel in the heart of downtown that is considered the world's largest observation wheel. It was amazing to see the view of downtown from that far up. There I made a new friend, Harshavardhan, who asked if I had ever been to India. I told him no, but it was definitely on my bucket list. He asked me why, and I told him I Have to see the Taj Mahal and I'm obsessed with Indian food. Then he told me all the other places, especially Jaipur, I should check out in India. He then mentioned he has a cousin at Texas Tech. We exchanged contact info so when I make the journey to India he can give me some tips or case his cousin gets in trouble... I laughed and told him I'd see what I could do.
I left the Flyer and casually walked around the bay, and took pictures with the Merlion one last time. I let myself get lost on other streets around town just for the heck of it. I finally got back to my side of town and had lunch (seafood noodles) and went for one last dip in the hotel pool. By now all I can think about is home. I've had a great time here but I want to be around my friends again. I read up on the news and then went out for my last $8 Tiger beer.
It's been real Asia... but I'm coming back to America. Maybe it would be harder to leave if I didn't have a flight to New York in three weeks already booked.... ❤️🗽💙
